In June last year, Herman and I are supposed to venture Kalimantan of Borneo, we had heard lots of story about this area with the potential of finding new species neither flora or fauna but the plan was scrapped last minutes due to political instability in this region after we arrived to Kuching.
Sign! It’s always the case, although it was well planned in a year advance but things don’t always happen as in our wish. Despite the frustration, we plotted and alternative plan, our prime target is finding C. zaidiana in Miri division!
We drove 600kms south to Bintulu town and hired a 4wd drive. The next morning, we travelled another 260kms including about 100kms off road to a village call Long Trans. It was a rainy morning; hence part of the road was in extreme harsh condition, our biggest worry come into the picture just before the village, the car was stuck in the mud!
We wasted 2 hours before we can move on with the help of local villager.
Michael was standing next to the God’s sent angel who helps us freed the car from the mud.
This pathetic Borneo gibbon was trapped and keeping in a small cage by the villager, sighs!
It was around 1 hour after noon before we managed to hire a boat. Herman was having some good fellowship with the villagers before we departed to C. zaidiana territory, he’s blended himself right into the community.
Here we started our journey with a small boat, water level was too high!
This is the exact spot but no crypts was found due to high water level.
After 2 hours of searching, we’re still empty handed, C. zaidiana’s are not way to be seen in this high tide condition. Reluctantly, we’re forced to turn back before it’s too late.
The storm is approaching; we must hurry up if we want to leave this place.
We reached hotel of Bintulu late evening but safely that day, we really enjoined the adventurous journey although no Crypts was found but we will be back real SOON!
