Journey to Pahang

In may 2007, I got a phone call from Herman inviting me to join his expedition trip to Pahang. I was excited and picked him up from the zoo (No! that was not his habitat but he worked there) early in the morning the next day. After a quick breakfast we headed straight to our first targeted location, a hilly site near Bukit Tinggi. We planned to search for 2 species of plants, Orchid and pitcher plant.

Bamboo orchid’s (Arudina Graminifolia) are known to be abundance here.

Next, Nepenthes Sanguinea, named after Latin: sanguineus = blood red.

After lunch, we headed straight to our next targeted location. Two wonder species of aquatic aroid can be found here. Cryptocoryne affinis and nurii.

The C. Affinis found here are very much different from the species found in Selangor, the leaves appear darker and they dwell in hard water. C. nurii is one of my favorite plants, because of the heart shape flower which is simply stunning and lovely.

Seems like C. affinis has a much larger distribution than what’s expected. Is the biotope in a limestone region?

I reckon that C. nurii are found in different localities to C. affinis?
