I recently had a chance to follow Mike and his ‘climbing’ friends up one of the many limestone hills around Kuching in search of interesting plants.
Here are some photos of the trip and the interesting pitcher plants we found there
A view of a beautiful natural rock garden
One of the many patches of Begonias found within the cave
Before we could reach the secret gardens above us, we had to go through several dark caves….LIGHTS EVERYONE!!!
Mike Lo and one of his ‘climbing’ buddies, Hendry……..Say Cheese!!!
One of the first orchids we meet, the Helmeted Orchid, growing together with a clump of moss. This orchid was found almost everywhere but because it so tiny, it was easy to miss it under ones feet….
The steep slopes of the limestone hill was also dotted with this beautiful aroid….
Another fascinating begonia growing entangled among leaf litter and tree roots…
Our first Nepenthes but without the pitcher
Almost overlooked this beauty found amongst leaf litter, the Jewel Orchid!!
LOST?? Mike getting his GPS out to find out our location…
A view from one of the peaks…..breathtaking!
The first N. x cincta that we found
A close up of the pitchers. The Albomarginata trait is very obviously seen
The first N.northiana we encountered under canopy shade of the limestone forest
A close up of the magnificent looking pitcher
Another large N.northiana found along the summit of the hill.
The hanging pitcher of N. northiana
