It may be hoped that it is possible to maintain a small piece of jungle in an otherwise densely populated area. They can do it in Singapore, in e.g. Bukit Timah, and in India they have a tradition for maintaining "sacred groves" near temples and other sacred places. Not necessarily large areas, but enough to sustain a small portion of flora and fauna, for the benefit of the people. Fingers crossed.
