Cordata-leaved nurii!

Another interesting C. nurii rediscovered by Herman recently, a cordata-leaved nurii! This species was first reported by a Japanese in eastern Pahang.

He didn’t realized it was nurii until he saw the red spathe, the leaves are completely identical with cordata.

Here are some photos,

Well to add to these are a couple more photos of the trip. On the way to the location, my team and I stopped by the fringes of Tasek Bera. Cryptocoryne cordata was the dominant species in a swamp next to this road.

Before reaching the swamp, Hamzah was honored to find a village after his name…comes with a free title too!!

Although the swamp looked dirty and murky, the swamp was rich with fish and crypts.

Several plants were about to flower as seen by the unopened spathes here.

Some of the flowering C.cordata

Amongst the normal looking cordata, we found these……

A comparison between the two different leaf patterns. These plants retained their unusual patterns even though replanted at home. All the leaves produced the same yellow veins.

On the way back Hamzah had a tummy ache. He rushed to to find a good spot in the nearby oil palm estate….and this was what he found! A whole patch of C.cordata in the open under the scorching hot sun, partially dried

After driving for more than 2 hours, we reached the site of the C.nurii with cordate leaves. The swamp forest was full of leaf litter and trees with unusual knee roots…

A mass of entangled ‘breathing’ knee-roots

The floor of the swamp forest was carpeted with the cordate-leafed C.nurii

A close up of some plants on the forest floor, amongst leaf litter

Sirajudin collecting as many plants he can….

We also found a few clumps of beautiful aroids

A stream not far the C.nurii site full with Barclaya mottleyi. The stream was also filled with various fish such as Boraras maculatus, Rasbora paucipeforata, Betta pugnax, B.tussyae, half beaks, harlequin rasbora etc

    Hi Joshua, hi Herman!

Wonder if both of you ever try to keep barclaya motleyi before?
Just got 2 small bulbs of them and don’t know what to do.

Hi, barclaya motleyi is pretty common in our expedition, good to know you’re keeping them well.
