Betta kuehnei

Betta kuehnei is a newest member of pugnax group; it was described in December 2008. According to Schindler Bulletin of Fish Biology, this species can be distinguished from the other species by a combination of the following characters:

1.    A round caudal fin both in males and females.
2.    Absence of a second postorbital stripe and a comparatively.
3.    Short second central stripe (joined with central stripe above anterior part of anal fin)
4.    Male coloration with intensive blue or bluish-green iridescent (blackish when preserved) area on head sides and on throat from snout tip to posterior edge of opercle.

It can be found in Peninsula Malaysia near the border of Thailand sharing the habitat with other interesting labyrinth fish like Parosphromenus paludicola. It’s usually being found hiding beneath C. Cordata and dead leaf litter.

PH 7,
25 °C water temperature,
Soft water.

    Hi Herman
    Nice the fish what i found. Bad only, i know until now only 1 distribution of B. kuehnei. I would like need your help for find more distribution of B. kuehnei. Or iff we find not more a strong praeservation of the area of B. kuehnei. I fair the area will loose in some years.
